What happens every year on 27 April? What, you haven't heard? It's King's Day, and if you're in the Netherlands, you should celebrate! You don't have to think too much about what to do, because everything has already been organised for you.

Although celebrations take place all over the Netherlands, the really special city to celebrate in is, as you may have already guessed, Amsterdam. But wherever you are, the rules for the day are simple, unless you plan to wear orange, whether it's your favourite colour or not.

Set your watch, because you don't want to miss the next stops.

1. Vondelpark

The park is ideal for children, who have the opportunity to develop their entrepreneurial spirit by selling toys and clothes they no longer need. Many young people become street performers for a day, turning the park into a celebration of song and dance. The gates open at 09:00, and along with the street sale, there are plenty of games and other fun to make you feel like a kid again! More details on activities for families and children here .

Kingsland Festival

Celebrate King's Day at Kingsland, held at Amsterdam's impressive RAI Conference and Events Centre, the ideal place to celebrate in style with four different indoor and outdoor stages. Details .

3. Kingsday Cruise

Would you like to spend King's Day on a boat while listening to River IJ? And that's not all: the event features two DJ pumping stages, two general bars, a dedicated cocktail bar, four unique areas and plenty of food (which you'll definitely want at this six-hour party!). If that appeals to you, head to Pier 14 (near Ruyterkade 7). Details .

4. Terug naar toen

For even more music, head to the Terug naar toen party. From noon to sunset, you can dance to the hottest hits of the 80s, 90s and 2000s at this outdoor event. Details .

5. Rooftop After Party

If you want more adrenaline, a party at the height is definitely the place to be! For more details, access the event organised by W Amsterdam on Spuistraat 175.

6. Bar Broker

Why spend King's Day the usual way when you can break a record doing it? At Bar Broker in the city centre, you can get in free to try your luck, armed with buckets of beer and hats. If you're not up for the challenge, relax and enjoy the competitive atmosphere. Details .

7. Waterlooplein

If you like parties, then Waterlooplein is the place for you! For eight hours you'll listen to music non-stop.

The open-air festival in the centre of Amsterdam means not only a full day of music by famous DJs, but also a bar, plenty of food and lots of fun. Read more here .
