Plogging is a trend in Sweden that combines sport (running) with cleaning up the environment.

We also wanted to clean up our neighbourhood, the places we pass by day after day, and get some exercise. So we got together on 24 March, a sunny day and at the same time the Dutch national clean-up day (Landelijke Opschoondag), to clean up part of the Amsterdam Zuid-Oost neighbourhood.

We arrived in our sports gear, armed with protective gloves and garbage bags (small, 22l) and started cleaning up. In one hour one person collected about 3 bags of rubbish. The running appeared more when we were moving from one side of the neighborhood to the other and otherwise we were walking normally and cleaning up ( so extra bending movements were included).

The garbage bags we threw away when they filled up at the first big garbage bin. We also met the people from the Amsterdam Zuid-Oost town hall who were also urging students on the nearby campus to clean up.
