You may have heard about the new General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR"), which enters into force on 25 May 2018. To help you comply with the requirements of the GDPR agreement, you must confirm that you wish to continue to receive content from us if you are a ROMPRO newsletter subscriber.

First of all, this regulation is not necessarily something new under the sun. There is currently a 1995 European Directive on the protection of personal data in force. This Directive has been implemented, in its own way, by each EU Member State. The Regulation, on the other hand, is binding and has direct effect in each Member State without the need for transposition into national law.

We remind you that ROMPRO Foundation Romanians for Romanians Netherlands sends newsletters (emails) monthly and before large-scale events organized by us to those who are in our database.

You can see some examples of newsletters here: January 2018February 2018, event invitation (Romanian Days 2017)

You can always subscribe to our newsletter or unsubscribe. For data update we will send an email before 25 May 2018. If you haven't received it by then please write to newsletter@rompro.nl.

The major changes the rule change brings and what it means for our newsletter subscribers:

  • Consent -> in the email you received from us (before the regulation came into force) we ask you to confirm that you still want to receive email notifications from us.
  • Right of access -> the data subject has the right to obtain confirmation from us as to whether or not personal data relating to him or her is being processed and, if it is, access to that data and to the following information:
    • The purposes of the processing: ROMPRO Romanians For Romanians Foundation Netherlands will use the information you provide to keep in touch with you and to provide news about the Foundation and the Romanian community in the Netherlands via email.
    • categories of data concerned: email, name and surname
    • the recipients to whom they have been or will be disclosed;
    • period for which data is stored: until unsubscription by the data subject
    • the existence of the right to request the controller to rectify or erase data or to restrict processing: you can request such information from us at newsletter@rompro.nl
    • the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority;
    • source of obtaining the data (if the data is not obtained from the data subject): you can request such information from us at newsletter@rompro.nl
  • Right of rectification -> the data subject has the right to have inaccurate or incomplete personal data relating to him or her rectified/corrected.
  • Right to erasure of data ("right to be forgotten") -> the data subject has the right to obtain from the controller the erasure of data relating to him or her in the following situations:
    • the data are no longer necessary for the purpose for which they were collected or processed;
    • the data subject withdraws his/her consent and there is no other legal basis for the processing;
    • the data subject objects to the processing;
    • data have been processed illegally;
    • personal data must be deleted to comply with a legal obligation incumbent on the controller;
  • Right to data portability -> the data subject has the right to receive personal data in a structured format and the right to have this data transmitted directly to another controller if technically feasible.
  • Right to object -> the data subject may object to the processing at any time on grounds relating to his or her particular situation.
  • Right to security -> the data subject has the right to be informed of any data breach

All companies, foundations, NGOs, etc. holding personal information are obliged to follow the new GDPR regulation.
