Because language is a basic element of a nation's identity, groups of Romanians in the Netherlands have worked together to organise Romanian schools in various parts of the country. Romanian schools have specially designed programmes for parents who want Romanian language and culture to be part of their child's education.

Currently we know of 4 Romanian schools:

Romanian School Amsterdam

A project of the RomPro Foundation, the school opens its doors on weekends, especially for Romanians and Moldovans living in the surroundings of Amsterdam. From language and culture workshops to dance workshops, the school offers a wide range of ways to learn Romanian values in a creative way. The school also offers Romanian language courses for adults. For more details on the school's activities you can visit this link and don't forget to read school diarywhich gives you a detailed description of a day at school.

Romanian School Eindhoven

Organized by a group of parents from the Eindhoven area, the Romanian school offers courses in Romanian language, Romanian history and culture and traditional handicraft workshops (dyeing eggs, making marzipan, painting on glass and so on). For more details and information you can visit the school's official page, here.

Romanian School The Hague

With the support of the Ministry for Romanians Abroad, the Romanian school in The Hague organizes Romanian language and culture courses for students of all ages. More information and contact details can be found on the school's official website, here.

Schiedam Parish School

The 37-year-old church of St. Gregory the Theologian in Schiedam gathers around it part of the Romanians settled in the Netherlands. Since 2011, the church has been organising Romanian language courses as well as courses in Romanian geography and history. The school's official website is here.

Although you are far from Romania, with the help of Romanian schools you can bring Romanian traditions and language into your family even in the Netherlands. If you are already enrolled in one of the schools tell us about your and your child's experience!

What's your reaction?
