On Sunday, November 17, I was quickly climbing the library stairs. I was going to attend the inauguration of the Romanian Libraries in the Netherlands, hosted by Openbare Bibliotheek Amsterdam Oosterdok as part of the Huis van Alle Talen project. I knew where I would find the others. I knew how to get there. It was quite different when I first climbed the stairs of this building - these were my first days in the Netherlands and I was experiencing a strong sense of unreality. In this place, just three months ago, I met Cătălina Negru... then Simona Duicu... then Maria Dicieanu... And now I was finishing the first chapter. This day was about involvement, community, identity. It was about books and children like Irina - a five year old girl with a white hair who loves all the colours on her sleeveless blouse and can say them in Dutch, English or Romanian. She is the future reader of the Dutch Romanian Library.
