Dwarf workshop

Text: Nicoleta Oprea

Last Saturday we met some of the children enrolled in the Dwarf Workshop. Dilek will continue to be with us as a mommy. We are looking forward to it! At the first meeting, I thought it was important for the children to get acquainted with my presence with them, and things went naturally.

We started the class with elements of gymnastics. This was a welcome refresher exercise after the sweet sleep that is sometimes abruptly interrupted in the car to get to school. We trained the body parts in different movements, which we associated with concepts familiar to children. We played soccer and had fun passing the ball from one to another and scoring goals.

From plasticine, we modelled different shapes and gave them names, according to each child's imagination.

We played with our thumbs, learning each other's names and singing happy songs about it together. The mums sang along with us and the atmosphere was one of good humour. At the same time, the children played with the toys the school has; they arranged the cubes according to size and we learned that some children already know the numbers and colours.

At the end of the class, everyone got involved in clearing up the classroom and I want to thank both the children and parents for this valuable help.

We will meet again on March 10, when I look forward to a new lesson on spring. Have a nice holiday with your little ones!

Last Saturday, our story-creating dice challenged and accompanied us on our fantastic journey. A crazy lexical arsenal, excitement, joy are some of the ingredients we tasted during our imaginary foray. Intelligent machines that turn into flying balloons, humanized wild animals and of course children, the main heroes, are a few ideas about the stories created. This exercise is designed to develop our direct communication, vocabulary and stimulate our imagination, while teaching us to listen and debate.

We continued with a reading about friendship and what it means to offer help. The story is called "Plum and Clementine", two fairies, friends with each other and the animals of the forest. Taking the example of the fairies, we shared impressions of our best friends. It was nice to learn that our parents are our friends too (one child confessed that his mother is his best playmate!).

We moved and sang to the song "The peasant is in the field".In the last part of our lesson, dedicated to activities, we worked in age groups. Children aged 5-6 played with the letters of the alphabet. They had the exercise of putting in alphabetical order and associating the picture with the corresponding letter, using cards illustrated with specific letters and pictures. Successful and collaborative exercise! The same group also received a worksheet with the letter M, m.

The other children, aged 4, were given a worksheet and the requirement was to cut out and assemble the boy or girl, thus repeating the concepts of the human body.

This Saturday, the school holidays start. Our classes will resume as scheduled on Saturday 10 March. I wish you a nice holiday and see you all in good health.

On Saturday 10 February we had a very creative and constructive session, following up on what we set out to do. Thank you to the parents who thought of us and printed out lots of images, which gave us lots of opportunities to play with meanings, shapes and colours in a clever, challenging and why not revealing way. The children will never forget what the Sphinx of the Carpathians, the Dacian Flag, the Infinity Column, Hagi and Nadia Comaneci are. So, not only did we cut out, colour, use already learnt notions such as composition, but we also checked all sorts of general knowledge, geography, history and sport. We ran on demand this time again the Romanian cartoons with Mihaela and Azorel's adventures, and later Pin Pin's travels. Although the programme was so intense we still found time to have a good time at the end.

I wish you a pleasant mini holiday, and if you go on trips I wish you fun and good cheer. See you in a few weeks. Until then: all the best!
