Het is de tegenwind die de vlieger doet stijgen = The headwind (from Holland) forces you to fly up.

Adriana Boancă is a graduate in economics and finance and a friend of ROMPRO Foundation.

What made you come to the Netherlands?

The future husband + the desire and ability to explore the new, to conquer, to fly as high as possible.

Before you left Romania, did you feel informed about what to expect here?

At that time there was still not much digital stuff, so we didn't have complete information. But before I left, I thought I knew everything.

Have you had any pleasant surprises or the opposite? What do you wish you had known or had that might have made the process easier?

There is a huge difference in culture and mentality. It was much harder than I thought, professionally. I had to start from the beginning.

How long have you been here? Have you adapted well to the new culture? How was the process and how long did it take? How long did it take you to feel at home? What problems did you face or are you still facing?

I've been here for 15 years, I behave as is appropriate and required where I am. I'm flexible. I wanted to fit in and find my place in Dutch society.

What do you still find difficult to understand about Dutch culture?

That your GP gives you ice in your throat as advice when you have tonsillitis.

What has changed in your way of life since living here?

Bend or break. I'm moving.

How do you see the relationship with other Romanians and the preservation of the Romanian identity abroad?

I am very pleased with the Romanians I met at ROMPRO and I want to form a community here, to be united. I want to be together with those who have the same vision as me.

Why did you choose to get involved in the Foundation's work and what would you like to achieve through your contribution?

Let's be united, let's meet when we can.

What do you like to do? What profession have you chosen and why?

I love numbers, you can tell I'm no good with words. I chose economics - finance because with numbers you measure, words are beautiful.

Would you like to tell us about a funny, interesting or maybe not so pleasant event that you experienced in the Netherlands?

Yes, when I came here I went to Keukenhoff, I discovered on the spot that the tulips are supported with a small, straight wire to stand straight. And the flowers don't smell, not even one.

What are your plans for the future and how will you put them into practice? Do you consider Dutch society to be a good environment for them? If not, what would be the obstacles to their realisation?

Work until retirement and back Romania.

Your motto or a quote that motivates you.

Het is de tegenwind die de vlieger doet stijgen = The headwind (from Holland) forces you to fly up.

What's your reaction?
