Are you getting ready to celebrate King's Day in the Netherlands?

Thinking of taking up the Dutch tradition of going out to sell your no-longer-needed stuff on the street or in parks? It's not only the kids who enjoy the day to put a few more things in the piggy bank, but adults also take to the streets in the Dutch commercial spirit.

Here are some suggestions to help you prepare so you can be as successful as possible:

1. Don't stay home, go out with friends to sell, it will be more fun and easier to take turns at the booth. The place should be reserved the night before ( mark it with chalk) and taken as early as possible in the morning!
2. Prepare in advance the things you want to sell, be original!
3. Decorate your stand with flags and garlands to attract attention! Don't forget to wear a funny hat, wig or clothes in orange or Dutch flag colours!
4. Make piles of things at a fixed price, piles from which the wishers can choose what suits them, children especially love looking for bargains in a crate of items!
5. Advertise, shout, sing, dance, play music!
6. Put your talents on sale: do portraits, offer compliments, write love letters on request, offer hugs or advice, find something unique and funny!
7. Don't forget to enjoy every moment, it's a unique day that deserves to be lived to the fullest! If it went well send us a picture!
