On Saturday, 5 July, in the green and peaceful setting of the Calorama domain in Noordwijk, a cultural afternoon with Romanian accents took place, organised by the ROMPRO Foundation in collaboration with the Kunstklank Foundation.
We danced the hora to the music of Cununa, tasted Romanian food from Acasă Catering and cakes from Coni's Cake, braided wreaths with Corina Popa and admired the Romanian jewellery presented with care and passion by Nicoleta Tanase.
Dutch and Romanian families got to know Romanian culture in a simple and authentic way - through music, stories, flavours and handmade things.
Speaking of ii - one of the most beautiful moments of the day was meeting an elderly Dutch couple dressed in Romanian folk costumes. They had met in the 1980s at folk dance classes and in 1987, on a cultural exchange, they visited Romania and bought their traditional costumes. They happily wore them again, talked about the dances, traditions and their decades-long love of Romanian culture.
It was a successful afternoon, where Dutch and Romanian families danced the hora together, exchanged impressions, smiled. A day where simple things spoke best.
And this is, in fact, the aim of the ROMPRO Foundation with events like this: natural integration into Dutch society without losing who we are. If you are interested in what we do, come and join us as a ROMPRO Foundation volunteer.
