Atelier Deventer - Romanian Language, Culture and Civilization

Text and photos: Veronica Filipoiu

Today we started the lesson by discussing why it is good to learn Romanian. Among them, we mentioned the fact that we will be able to understand and discuss with grandparents and relatives in Romania when we go on holiday, but also that it will be easier for us to learn other related languages: Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese.

Today's lesson is dedicated to the professions. Together we discovered some of the professions in the alphabet, such as A-Actor, B-Builder, C-Builder or Singer, D-Dancer and Dancer, E-Economist, P-Politician, V-Veterinarian etc.

To put into practice what we discussed we played the mime game. I mimed some professions and the children guessed them. Then some of the children mimed and the others guessed. Some children learned how to write some professions in Romanian and practised on flipchart sheets.

Then we discussed what each child would like to be when they grow up. Some knew very quickly what they wanted and others needed to think a bit more or didn't decide at the time. I didn't insist that everyone necessarily has to say a profession now on the spot, they will have plenty of time to think about this in the future.

-Renna: great gymnast

-Eva: librarian

-Sven: policeman

-Sabrina: didn't know now, maybe later

-Amina: YouTube-er

-Sam: Youtube-er

-David: He wants to be Dad.

We started part two with a little energizer game. We made the train and sang and danced the alphabet.

We then did a little game on board #1 that they took home, where they had to figure out the path in the maze that Coach could take to get to the ball. I really liked that they helped each other and so everyone managed to find the right way.

In the last part of the lesson we switched a bit from the professions and continued by drawing the story "Once upon a time there was a child who lived in the land where there was no fruit...".
