One of the many activities of ROMPRO Foundation is providing support in urgent social cases. This is done within the limits of volunteers' availability and using their own resources and the help of the community, without funding or subsidies. In the 6 years we have been active we have solved dozens of social aid cases, uniting around us those who wanted to help in each case.

Cases have varied:

  • help in accidents or serious medical cases , some without medical insurance
  • support with translation during hospital visits
  • people made homeless and penniless by abuse
  • support or redirection in the case of employer abuse (unpaid wages, denied sick leave, unjustified withholding of large sums
  • urgent information (lawyers, translators, doctors, day and night shelters, transporters)
Between April 2020 and November 2021due to the pandemic, we set up the Volunteers on the phone, with the idea of being close to those impacted by the pandemic. But the service has quickly transformed from a more moral to a practical support - around a hundred people have turned to us in the past two years, more than a third of them serious cases with complex resolution.

These cases include:

Zolle case - The case of the pregnant woman in 2019, without insurance and employment contract, who again required assistance in rescheduling payments due to the medical system in the absence of insurance.

the case of the 18 workers brought to the Netherlands and abandoned on the street, with no money and no desire to repatriate; with the support of the community we managed to quickly find them temporary accommodation, bring them the necessary things for accommodation and help them find work; a considerable effort, considering that there were 18 people.

Boxtel case - an accident in which a Romanian woman was left immobilised, required financial support and assistance in resolving the conflict with her employer.
Antonio case - a Romanian teenager in prison whose sentence is unduly extended. This case required intensive contact with the mother, two visits to the correctional facility, discussions with the lawyer, mentor and therapists to make sure he was receiving fair treatment.

Tilburg case - need of medical assistance, where we provided the money for doctor's visits, medicines and helped find a new job.

case den Haag - I helped a mother with a little girl, abused by her partner, to repatriate in a time of pandemic, with no flights and limited transport.

Constantin case - following a stroke, where his employer insisted on repatriation and treatment at his own expense in Romania, we arranged treatment and recovery in the Netherlands. Cost covered by employer and insurance, also providing translation assistance in dealing with hospital staff several times a week.
Heerlen case - 2 young women left without jobs and money, we helped them to find a new job and paid their deposit at their new accommodation, plus food. The case was represented a few months later when I helped them repatriate.
Oss case - left without work and accommodation from one day to the next, with terrible pain from a herniated disc, no money for accommodation. With the help of the community we managed to find accommodation for a few months, with Rompro partly contributing to the cost, and to help him get his legal entitlement for sick leave. We also helped him to sign up for new insurance, see his GP and get the right treatment for his medical condition.
Eindhoven case - I helped with UWV allowance recovery, physiotherapy sessions, food and with psychological support.

Amstelveen case - message sent to the foundation expressing his desire to commit suicide. We were able to reach a family member and help manage the case logistically and therapeutically in the Netherlands.

Terneuzen case - a family with problems at their daughter's kindergarten, we brokered discussions between the family and social services.

Lelystad case - I helped a Romanian woman with no job and no ID to get her passport. I contributed to the cost of transport to the embassy and the cost of issuing the passport.

Ouddorp case - first month working in the Netherlands in a critical situation. With the help of the community and the foundation, he received food, clothing, rubber boots needed to work in the fields and emergency medicines.
Amsterdam case - A young man in the Netherlands with no money, no job and no accommodation was helped with money for transport, temporary accommodation and the information he needed to get back on his feet.
All these cases would not have had an echo within the Foundation and would not have found a solution, however small or temporary, without the help of our volunteers and the community of Romanian people on whom we rely. In order to continue to do good in 2022, we need you, especially because the cases are distributed in the territory, where the Foundation cannot always physically reach. You can contribute with a phone call to an institution or a translation, a donation, a food bag directly to the one in need or by delivering a transport card paid by Rompro, etc. These may be small gestures for many, but vital for those in need.
What's your reaction?
