This year we celebrate 30 years of friendship and cooperation between Deventer, the city of Sibiu and the Romanian Community in the Netherlands. 2019 is the year when 30 years ago revolutions took place in Central and Eastern Europe (including Romania). It is also the year in which Romania held the Presidency of the European Council from 1 January to 30 June and organised the EU Summit in Sibiu. Sibiu also carries the title "Gastronomic Region of Europe" in 2019.

Participants are pupils, students and teachers from schools and educational institutions in both regions/countries, from primary to university education. The creative sector participates with film, photography, visual arts, readings and music.

A varied programme will include a range of cultural, educational and economic events. With this we want to strengthen cooperation, give a more complete picture of (modern) Romania and highlight Deventer's contribution to the cooperation between the Netherlands and Romania.

In the "Romania Week", a delegation from Sibiu will participate from 5 to 10 December in a programme with representatives from the business sector, education, cultural sector, local and provincial authorities and NGOs.

Education

Among other things, the educational programme focuses on the study of projects related to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals.

Examples are:

  • Productive employment and decent working conditions for all;
  • ensuring sustainable consumption and production patterns.

The projects contribute locally to sustainability goals and join initiatives such as Deventer4GlobalGoals.

Attention is also given to student exchanges and exchange of know-how through workshops for students and teachers. Networking and social events also take place in collaboration with students from Romania and other Eastern European countries, among others.

Economy

In the economic section a delegation of entrepreneurs from Sibiu and its surroundings will be welcomed in Deventer. The Association of Small and Medium-Sized Entrepreneurs (MKB Deventer) has invited companies and representatives of government institutions and business clubs from Sibiu for this purpose. The aim is to get to know each other by establishing business contacts, meetings and visits in order to create new distribution channels between Romanian and Dutch entrepreneurs and companies in Sibiu and Deventer.

Organised by "Focus op Roemenië": the NetSib Foundation, in collaboration with the municipality of Deventer, Romanian and Dutch partners.
