Romanian language and culture

Saturday 1 December was once again an occasion for joy and celebration. And what a celebration! 100 years of Romania! Of course, we also celebrated the great day of the Union with our loved ones at school, who were at home or scattered in other places. Starting from the map of Romania, we went back in time to Alba Iulia in 1918 and imagined the National Assembly, helped by our smartboard. Through the process of conversation, we spoke in a child-friendly way about this act of will of thousands of people, an important act carried out under the leadership of King Ferdinand I.

Dressed in national costumes and to the background of the Hore of the Union and other popular songs, we trained the children in making tricolour flags.

Afterwards, together with the parents and the Dwarf group, waving the flags, we started playing and singing. United in a fraternal horde, happy and excited we marked 100 years of Romania.

As we are not long away from the end of the year and therefore from our Christmas party, we started preparing the carols. Here are the 2 carols we chose and rehearsed with the children:

The end of the year is fast approaching and we have one more date to look forward to, but not just any date. I hope that those of you who stay and join us will enjoy joining in the singing, the good will and the goodies that are being prepared for you and the children.

Last Saturday we had the opportunity to spend it together with the little ones and to sing the wonderful carol "Today Christ is born", which we will also perform at the Christmas party next Saturday. Then the little ones went on to make and colour greeting cards, and I worked hard with the older ones on some sorcows. Some of these sorcerers turned out very abstract and frilly, but the fun was great and that's what counts. On top of that we'll have a chance to practise our handwork skills in the next module.

Children are even encouraged to make mistakes, especially as they learn from their mistakes, and do not have to expect immediate effects from their exercises. On top of that, I've shown them many times that if they do their best and put a bit of seriousness into their work, they can really have nice results at the end that they can be proud of. The sorceries in particular and their making was a slightly comical process, but I am glad I had the opportunity to introduce them to this beautiful custom of ours.At the Christmas party on Saturday I hope they will be prepared to join in the carol "Today Christ is born" and then recite to us from the good wishes I propose.

We sing carols at New Year's Eve, as well as with Sorcova, but it is part of our tradition and of the Romanian winter holidays, and I hope that they will also find it enjoyable but especially important to understand the transition that these holidays celebrate, the hope for better and the desire for renewal.

Good luck and I look forward to seeing you again on Saturday 15 December.
