Play and personal development

In the last class of this module of the Play and Personal Development Workshop we had the opportunity to study in detail ways of presenting a text, i.e. a short poem, which the children will recite during the end of year celebration. Thank you for doing your best for the children to learn the poems, it was so easy to work with.

We went through together, going back to older notions, a way of thinking that underlies any artistic interpretation.

The children have deepened elements of artistic performance. Not only did we learn a text or a poem by heart, but we also tried to understand why we say those words and how important the way we tell a story is together with the atmosphere of the story.

We also practiced new words, corrected pronunciation and spelling, then body attitude and even encouraged them to analyze and notice how their peers recite or, why not, interpret.

We ended up indulging in the last moments by drawing him and dreaming of Santa Claus, who will come again this year with little treats for our children at the end of year party the following Saturday.

Today's lesson was all about winter holidays and traditions. After defining what winter means (white, snow, ice, frost, sleigh, Santa, tree, Christmas, presents) and its characteristics, we read riddles and had fun:

It has flying reindeer,
Goblins as helpers,
Who is this old man?

Who puts overnight
A mighty bridge across the water?
When they come down from the mountain,
He's wearing a gala dress,
With a proud star on his head
And tinsel.
When there's no snow,
He sleeps in the garden,
But when it snows outside,
With the kids flying.

As one of the important holidays in December is Christmas, I told the children about Jesus and his birth. Together we defined what Christmas means: a day that reminds us of kindness, giving, caring for loved ones and those in need, and when, year after year, we give gifts to others, remembering the gifts the baby Jesus received from the three kings.

In the last part of the lesson we rehearsed the carols that we will sing at our Christmas party and that I would ask you to repeat at home with your children ("Today Christ is born", "Santa Claus with the light brown robes", both sung by Tralala) To decorate our Christmas trees at home, the children and I made an angel.

I look forward to seeing you next Saturday, when we will delight you with a special Christmas art programme.

Dwarf Workshop

A beautiful fir tree, a beautiful fir tree... In the last lesson of 2017, the Dwarves learned about the winter season. Now they know it's cold, it's snowing, Christmas is coming and we're decorating the tree.

We listened to the story of the tree, which explains why the tree stays green all winter. Curious?

Then we decorated our tree with the help of our parents, who cut out felt ornaments. And because the tree is also made of felt, no glue is needed to make the ornaments stay on the tree.

What's your reaction?
