Dwarf workshop

We were happy to meet on Saturday for another workshop after a rather long holiday. That's why the playfulness was also on the mark.

The theme of our workshop was "Who am I?"

We started our adventure of knowledge with a game in which the children arranged pictures from a little book and recognised characters from the everyday world, such as: the little girl, the boy, the queen, the mermaid, the clown, the builder, the ballerina and the doctor.

Before moving on to the drawing activity, the little girl and the boy on the sheet, the older dwarves explained the particularities of each gender, making the difference between girls and boys.Play and good mood were the ingredients of our workshop, so all the toys in the school's equipment came to life in the hands of the children.

To give even more dynamism to our meeting, we listened with great joy to two cheerful songs about little girls and boys and imitated the movements of the characters: "Mama has a little girl" and "Little Zurli Boy". You can always listen to them on YouTube with your little ones.

I look forward to welcoming you next Saturday to a new workshop, where we will talk about Childhood and Children's Day.

Romanian language and culture

Welcome back after a long and well deserved holiday!

Our meeting last Saturday was a joy and pleasure to learn new things in our sweet Romanian language.

After introducing ourselves with a ball game and wishing "Welcome, Anna Sophie!", we shared our impressions of the holiday, recalled the song "Geese" to the rhythm of which we danced and sang.

Inspired by the song and its characters, we started a discussion about life on our planet, also called "Blue Planet". Then we put on our cosmonaut gear and, curious, took a journey with 'Paxi' into the world of the 'Solar System' and the Planets. Here is the video created by the European Space Agency that we watched.

After this viewing, we played with letters. We named each planet and identified the letter it starts with, wrote them on the board with the help of the children, but first we represented them by drawing and moving our bodies. The creative moment could only consist of creating the Solar System with all 8 planets orbiting our star, the Sun. The children modelled with plasticine, trying to respect the colours of each planet. The result turned out beautifully, I think you'll agree, right?

This Saturday, I look forward to a new lesson, when after a short review we will celebrate and have as theme "Children's Day".

Play, personal development and photography

I was glad to see you last Saturday after a long holiday, full of joy and curiosity again.

It was a special day, so we combined the photography lesson with more nature play. But it all fitted in with the theme we had set for the children, who responded enthusiastically to the new artistic challenge.

We reviewed the new ways of taking photos that they have discovered in recent months and reminded ourselves that one of the goals is not to take photos on a conveyor belt. And that we need to think clearly about what we like and try to capture an image of that object, moment or person, creating something special, capturing a moment worth keeping or stirring an emotion.

That's why we figured we were working on analogue film and that every frame counts. Before pressing the camera button we made sure that this is the moment we want to capture or that this is the emotion that fascinated us and we want to immortalise.

We worked both individually and as a team and learned how to take directed pictures, so not randomly. There were some interesting experiments, with objects, portraits where the children combined abstract photography with installations, which I can see they really like, and then they intertwined the game with spontaneous or group photography. The high heat almost torpedoed us, but the hustle and bustle itself was good for all of us. Then we looked at the photos we took and talked about them with interest.

Next time we'll continue the hustle and bustle in drama class with some summer games that our generation (the adults of today) played outside when we were their age. I chose this theme out of a slight sense of nostalgia.

So on June 2 we have a drama class at the Romanian School with the theme of universal childhood, and on June 9, on the day of the premiere of the play "Last Maidan", at the Romanian School we will have a special guest for the photography lesson, Mirela Marinescu, who has met the children of the drama class on another occasion, and who will coordinate that lesson. Mirela Marinescu is a fine arts teacher and photographer. Her photographs are very sensitive and intelligent, the children will enjoy spending time with Mirela practising new perspectives.

We look forward to seeing you.

See you soon!
