Dwarf workshop

Time flew by and our dwarves reached the last workshop of the school year.

In hot weather, as you don't often find in the Netherlands, what could be better than a cold ice cream and a refreshing juice? So we set to work and created our own fun out of coloured paper. We cut out, glued and then decorated the ice cream to our taste and preference. The dwarves then got in the mood to play and set about building tall towers out of cubes, and whoever was quickest with their hands knocked them down first.

Playing with the ball was one of our favourites, and the dance got us into all sorts of funny moves.

We look forward to seeing you in the autumn, when the school will open its doors to children again!

Romanian language and culture / Play, personal development and photography

Last Saturday, the Romanian language and personal development workshops merged! The reason was our guest Adriana Miu, who talked to the children about emotions. More and more, in schools and beyond, there is an emphasis on personal development and the correct identification of emotions. Emotions play an important role in the decisions we make on a daily basis and influence us from an early age. This is why we decided to devote a part of our work to this topic and to teach children how to identify and name feelings and emotions correctly in a playful way. Our workshop was a success. In a relaxed and cheerful atmosphere, the children learned to discover and identify the multitude of emotions we experience in different situations (at home, at school, in interaction with friends, colleagues, etc.) Taking a short presentation by Adriana as an example, the children were challenged to recount a situation where they felt angry and happy in turn. Clever and knowledgeable, the children outdid themselves in their stories!

Another telling example was watching the trailer "Upside Down", a landmark film when it comes to emotions. It was thoroughly enjoyed! What an avalanche of impressions! The children were tasked with discovering the emotions that appear in the trailer. Joy, sadness, disgust, anger, fear, contentment, happiness, disappointment were the first emotions identified, almost off the cuff.

With joy and gratitude, Adriana and I found that all these expressive manifestations called emotions are known to the children, they are aware of them and have a certain relationship with each one.

Our adventure into the mysterious and disturbing realm of emotions ended with a letter exercise. The class was divided into 3 working groups, each group receiving a set of letters. The role of each group was to find the word that named an emotion they had already studied. Although they started off slowly at first, it didn't take them long to find the words: HAPPINESS, JOY, SORROW.

Our lesson ended with a creative moment. This time the children expressed different emotions through drawing, each using their own imagination and experience. The drawings speak for themselves and you could admire them at the end.We also ended our school year with this lesson. I would like to thank you for your and the children's participation. To congratulate you for the effort, dedication and support with which you accompanied us Saturday after Saturday. May we wish you a wonderful summer vacation wherever you go and may we see you again in the fall when we will be counting freshmen again. Our Romanian School adventure will continue with new inspiring and hopefully engaging themes.
